Welcome to Pinellas County, Florida – Home to some of the most beautiful and impressive waterfront communities in the United States.
The Good Life
Some people call it paradise; we call it home. Pinellas County is located on a 39 mile long peninsula with 35 miles of white sandy beaches. The sun shines 361 days a year with an average temperature of 71 degrees. Our 30 parks, over 50 golf courses and 587 miles of coastline make it a great place to play.
If you like pro sports we have the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (baseball) the Buccaneers (football), and Lightning (ice hockey). How about ballet, jazz, classical or Broadway at one of our world class performing arts centers? You can also explore the renowned Salvador Dali along with our other 36 museums.
Designed by nature, cultivated by man, Pinellas County is the paradise you too can call home.
Must Sees in Tampa Bay Florida:
The largest park within the Pinellas County Park System, this park consists of 1,136 acres made up of five interconnected islands. First opened on December 21, 1962, when the state toll road named the Pinellas Bayway was completed, this park was dedicated May 11, 1963, in perpetuity as a public park. Annual park attendance averages more than 2.7 million visitors. The 12-inch mortar battery, located at the fort for which the park was named, was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on February 7, 1978. Adding to the historical interest at Fort De Soto, two British breech-loading, rapid-fire rifles of 1890 vintage were installed in March 1982. Markers showing the original building locations and a Quartermaster Storehouse Museum, which opened in November 2000, add to the park's historic interest. Renovation and conversion of the East Beach concession building to a picnic shelter was completed in 1991. The new picnic shelter can easily accommodate 200 visitors.

The 34-mile long Pinellas Trail offers county residents and visitors a unique opportunity to enjoy the outdoors that is close to home, close to work and close to where you want to go. Grab your in-line skates, put on your jogging shoes or hop on your bicycle and head to the Pinellas Trail.
An average of 90,000 persons use the Trail each month. The Trail is a unique greenway corridor linking some of Pinellas County’s most picturesque parks, scenic coastal areas and residential neighborhoods. While traveling along the Trail, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy deep glades of ancient live oaks trailing Spanish moss, quiet waterways and tidal streams with all varieties of land and water birds. The Trail is a priceless haven in a busy, highly urbanized environment, where Trail-goers safely breeze along. The construction of eight overpasses allow Trail-goers to travel above traffic at busy intersections.
Trail amenities include bike racks and refreshment stops along the way provided by the Pinellas Trails, Inc., a not-for-profit citizen's group. The Guide to the Pinellas Trail is a convenient, pocket-size flip chart map for navigating the Trail. The guide details rest stops, service stations, restaurants, pay phones, bike shops, park areas and much more along the entire length of the Trail. The free Guide to the Pinellas Trail is available at the Trail office, area libraries and the Pinellas County Courthouse Information Desk and on the Internet.

Tarpon Springs is an authentic Greek fishing and sponge diving village, featuring Greek foods, shops, a museum, and sponge diving exhibitions.
Tarpon Springs is known as "the sponge capital of the world". In the 1930s, the sponge industry of Tarpon Springs was very prosperous, bringing in millions of dollars of sponges yearly. But in the 1940s, the sea sponge beds were contaminated and destroyed by bacteria, which led to a decline in the natural sponge industry. The industry was revived in the 1980s when healthy sea sponges were found. Now Tarpon Springs is back to being a leader in the world's natural sponge market. All aspects of the sponge industry take place in Tarpon Springs, from the harvesting of the sponge, all the way to the auctions that are held weekly at the Sponge Docks for the wholesalers.

From that spot run approximately 200 feet due north to run over ?THE WALL?. This is a group of 35-40 foot long pilings stacked to resemble a wall. From the buoy, head 900 feet north. From there, switch on your recorder and head due east or west. To the west you will find two pyramids and to the east you will find three.

Salvador Dali Museum (St. Petersburg Florida)
The museum ranks as one of the top attractions in Florida receiving the highest rating by the Michelin Green Guide - the only such attraction on the west coast to be so honored. Daily tours of the museum’s fascinating collection will educate, yet entertain you, about one of the 20th century‘s greatest artists, Salvador Dali. Bewildering double images and incredible paintings, sculptures, holograms an art glass will amaze you; and early impressionist-style paintings and melting clocks will delight you.
As an artist, Salvador Dali was not limited to a particular style or media. The body of his work, from early impressionist paintings through his transitional surrealist works, and into his classical period, reveals a constantly growing and evolving artist. Dali worked in all media, leaving behind a wealth of oils, watercolors, drawings, graphics, and sculptures, films, photographs, performance pieces, jewels and objects of all descriptions. As important, he left for posterity the permission to explore all aspects of one’s own life and to give them artistic expression. Whether working from pure inspiration or on a commissioned illustration, Dali's matchless insight and symbolic complexity are apparent. Above all, Dali was a superb draftsman. His excellence as a creative artist will always set a standard for the art of the twentieth century.
